cycling-cut trouser
Cut in the riding position, then measured again standing. Both tables are published.
three places, three grades
a grade with no reason is not a grade
- hikingusable
- The high back rise bunches at the waist when you stand upright for a full day.
- cyclingsuitable
- Patterned in the riding position: back rise 5 cm high, knee articulated forward, narrow right cuff clear of the crank, one zipped rear pocket reachable in the saddle.
- commutingsuitable
- Plain face fabric and welt front pockets; the long back rise is hidden under any shirt or jacket.
Cycling grades account for back hem length, sleeve length with your arms forward on the bars, and whether there is a rear pocket you can reach. Rear pocket on this piece: yes.

the piece
This trouser was patterned on a mannequin in a riding position rather than standing, which is why the back rise looks long on a hanger. Both sets of measurements are published below — the standing figures and the riding-position figures — because one without the other tells you nothing.
what it does, and where it stops
how we test- fabric weight
- 245 g/m²
- garment weight
- 442 g in EU 50 / M
- water repellency
- standard — PFC-free DWR, C0 chemistry, applied to the face fabric
- when the finish runs out
- 20 to 30 machine washes, sooner where a pack or saddle rubs
- how you will know
- water stops beading and rolls into the weave instead; the face fabric darkens where it soaks in
- how to renew it
- Wash it clean first, then apply a wash-in or spray-on repellent, then reactivate with a warm tumble dry or a warm iron through a cloth.
- hydrostatic resistance (EN ISO 811)
- Not published.
- breathability (EN ISO 11092)
- Not published.
Sheds a shower and wind-driven spray. It is not a rain barrier: in steady rain the face fabric wets out and water reaches the layer underneath, first at the shoulders and the seat.
Not measured. This garment is water-repellent only, so no hydrostatic figure is published for it.
Not yet measured. No breathability figure is published and no breathability claim is made until it is measured to this standard.
- Patterned on a mannequin at a 35° forward lean, then re-measured standing
- Right cuff 3 cm narrower than the left to clear the crank arm
- One zipped rear pocket, 15 × 11 cm, angled for a reach from the saddle
this is not personal protective equipment
This garment carries reflective trim. The trim is decorative: it is not personal protective equipment, it does not conform to EN ISO 20471 or to any other high-visibility standard, and it has not been tested or certified as safety equipment by anybody. Wearing it does not make a road safe. We sell no protective equipment of any kind — no helmets, no body protection, no certified high-visibility clothing.
- where the trim is
- Right cuff outer edge, 10 cm band
- Rear pocket welt, 12 cm band
- what the trim is made of
- Glass-bead retro-reflective tape, silver, stitched not bonded

Garment measurements in centimetres, taken flat. Tolerance ±1 cm — a run of fabric is never exact, and we would rather print the tolerance than pretend it away.

Measured on a mannequin held at a 35° forward lean. A forward lean lifts the back hem and pulls the sleeve back from the wrist, so these figures are lower than the standing ones — that is the effect, stated rather than hidden.
