shell

shell
commute shell longer back
Back hem 8 cm longer, reflective trim at the rear. Not protective equipment.
three places, three grades
a grade with no reason is not a grade
- hikingusable
- Works, but the long back hem hangs below a hip belt and bunches under it.
- cyclingsuitable
- Back hem 8 cm over the front, so at a 35° forward lean the lower back stays covered. Sleeves cut 2 cm long for the reach to the bars. Single zipped rear pocket.
- commutingsuitable
- Plain from the front, sits straight when you stand up, and the rear pocket takes a card wallet.
Cycling grades account for back hem length, sleeve length with your arms forward on the bars, and whether there is a rear pocket you can reach. Rear pocket on this piece: yes.

the piece
The shell built around the riding position: the back hem is cut 8 cm longer than the front so it still covers the lower back when you fold forward, and there is reflective trim on the rear yoke and cuffs. The trim helps you be noticed. It is decorative trim, not safety equipment, and this page says so because the difference matters.
what it does, and where it stops
how we test- fabric weight
- 105 g/m²
- garment weight
- 406 g in EU 50 / M
- packed volume
- 0.9 L
- water repellency
- standard — PFC-free DWR, C0 chemistry, applied to the face fabric
- when the finish runs out
- 20 to 30 machine washes, sooner where a pack or saddle rubs
- how you will know
- water stops beading and rolls into the weave instead; the face fabric darkens where it soaks in
- how to renew it
- Wash it clean first, then apply a wash-in or spray-on repellent, then reactivate with a warm tumble dry or a warm iron through a cloth.
- hydrostatic resistance (EN ISO 811)
- Not published.
- breathability (EN ISO 11092)
- Not published.
Measured stuffed into its own pocket and compressed by hand — not a machine-compressed figure.
Sheds a shower and wind-driven spray. It is not a rain barrier: in steady rain the face fabric wets out and water reaches the layer underneath, first at the shoulders and the seat.
Not measured. This garment is water-repellent only, so no hydrostatic figure is published for it.
Not yet measured. No breathability figure is published and no breathability claim is made until it is measured to this standard.
- Back hem 8 cm longer than the front, measured at centre back
- Reflective tape positions are listed above so you know exactly where it is and where it is not
- Finish: PFC-free DWR; renew after roughly 20 to 30 washes or when water stops beading
- One zipped rear pocket, 16 × 12 cm
this is not personal protective equipment
This garment carries reflective trim. The trim is decorative: it is not personal protective equipment, it does not conform to EN ISO 20471 or to any other high-visibility standard, and it has not been tested or certified as safety equipment by anybody. Wearing it does not make a road safe. We sell no protective equipment of any kind — no helmets, no body protection, no certified high-visibility clothing.
- where the trim is
- Rear yoke, one 22 cm horizontal band
- Both cuffs, 8 cm wrap
- Rear pocket zip puller
- what the trim is made of
- Glass-bead retro-reflective tape, silver, stitched not bonded

Measured on a mannequin held at a 35° forward lean. A forward lean lifts the back hem and pulls the sleeve back from the wrist, so these figures are lower than the standing ones — that is the effect, stated rather than hidden.

environmental characteristics
- Coated face fabric — sort as textile, not as plastic packaging
- Finish is a surface treatment, not a laminate, so the base cloth stays a single fibre family
- Zips and pullers are replaceable rather than bonded
