water-repellent shell
Water-repellent, not a rain barrier — with the finish, its life and its failure signal all printed.
three places, three grades
a grade with no reason is not a grade
- hikingsuitable
- Pit zips and a two-way hem zip give you somewhere to put the heat on a climb; hood adjusts with one hand.
- cyclingusable
- Back hem drops only 4 cm, so in a deep lean the lower back is exposed. The commute shell is the longer-backed one.
- commutingsuitable
- Plain, matt face fabric with no external branding; packs into the bag when the sky clears.
Cycling grades account for back hem length, sleeve length with your arms forward on the bars, and whether there is a rear pocket you can reach. Rear pocket on this piece: no.

the piece
A two-layer woven shell with a PFC-free DWR finish. It sheds a shower and cuts wind-driven spray. In steady rain the face fabric wets out and water reaches the layer underneath. Every part of that sentence is deliberate.
what it does, and where it stops
how we test- fabric weight
- 95 g/m²
- garment weight
- 348 g in EU 50 / M
- packed volume
- 0.7 L
- water repellency
- standard — PFC-free DWR, C0 chemistry, applied to the face fabric
- when the finish runs out
- 20 to 30 machine washes, sooner where a pack or saddle rubs
- how you will know
- water stops beading and rolls into the weave instead; the face fabric darkens where it soaks in
- how to renew it
- Wash it clean first, then apply a wash-in or spray-on repellent, then reactivate with a warm tumble dry or a warm iron through a cloth.
- hydrostatic resistance (EN ISO 811)
- Not published.
- breathability (EN ISO 11092)
- Not published.
Measured stuffed into its own pocket and compressed by hand — not a machine-compressed figure.
Sheds a shower and wind-driven spray. It is not a rain barrier: in steady rain the face fabric wets out and water reaches the layer underneath, first at the shoulders and the seat.
Not measured. This garment is water-repellent only, so no hydrostatic figure is published for it.
Not yet measured. No breathability figure is published and no breathability claim is made until it is measured to this standard.
- Finish: PFC-free DWR, C0 chemistry, on the face fabric only
- Renew it after roughly 20 to 30 washes, or when water stops beading
- Re-treat with a wash-in or spray-on repellent and reactivate with a warm tumble or a warm iron through a cloth
- Pit zips, two-way hem zip, one-hand hood adjusters at the rear and both sides

Garment measurements in centimetres, taken flat. Tolerance ±1 cm — a run of fabric is never exact, and we would rather print the tolerance than pretend it away.

Measured on a mannequin held at a 35° forward lean. A forward lean lifts the back hem and pulls the sleeve back from the wrist, so these figures are lower than the standing ones — that is the effect, stated rather than hidden.

environmental characteristics
- Coated face fabric — sort as textile, not as plastic packaging
- Finish is a surface treatment, not a laminate, so the base cloth stays a single fibre family
- Zips and pullers are replaceable rather than bonded

honest reviews
We publish reviews from verified purchases only, and we do not filter out the critical ones. This piece has not been out long enough to have any yet — when it does, they will appear here unedited, with the size bought next to each one.
