rain shell taped seams
Our most weather-resistant build. Still described as water-repellent, because we have no hydrostatic test to cite.
three places, three grades
a grade with no reason is not a grade
- hikingsuitable
- Taped seams and a storm hood are what a long wet day on an exposed path actually asks for.
- cyclingusable
- Excellent coverage, but cut for layers and it catches air; the hood is not adjustable for a riding position.
- commutingusable
- Heavier and more technical-looking than a commute needs, though it handles the walk from the car park in a downpour.
Cycling grades account for back hem length, sleeve length with your arms forward on the bars, and whether there is a rear pocket you can reach. Rear pocket on this piece: no.

the piece
Taped seams, a coated face fabric, a storm hood and a two-way front zip — the most weather-resistant thing we make. It has not been tested for hydrostatic resistance, so no mm-water-column figure appears anywhere on it. Until that test exists, the honest word is still water-repellent.
what it does, and where it stops
how we test- fabric weight
- 142 g/m²
- garment weight
- 542 g in EU 50 / M
- packed volume
- 1.6 L
- water repellency
- reinforced — PFC-free DWR, C0 chemistry, applied to the face fabric
- when the finish runs out
- 20 to 30 machine washes, sooner where a pack or saddle rubs
- how you will know
- water stops beading and rolls into the weave instead; the face fabric darkens where it soaks in
- how to renew it
- Wash it clean first, then apply a wash-in or spray-on repellent, then reactivate with a warm tumble dry or a warm iron through a cloth.
- hydrostatic resistance (EN ISO 811)
- Not published.
- breathability (EN ISO 11092)
- Not published.
Measured stuffed into its own pocket and compressed by hand — not a machine-compressed figure.
Sheds sustained rain far longer than the lighter shells here, and the taped seams stop water tracking through the stitch line. It is still not a rain barrier: with no hydrostatic test to cite we make no claim about how much water pressure the fabric holds, and prolonged rain will eventually reach you.
Not measured. This garment is water-repellent only, so no hydrostatic figure is published for it.
Not yet measured. No breathability figure is published and no breathability claim is made until it is measured to this standard.
- All structural seams taped, 20 mm tape
- No hydrostatic figure is published: EN ISO 811 has not been run on this fabric, and a number without its standard is not information
- Storm hood with a wired brim, three-point adjustment
- Two-way front zip with a double storm flap

Garment measurements in centimetres, taken flat. Tolerance ±1 cm — a run of fabric is never exact, and we would rather print the tolerance than pretend it away.

environmental characteristics
- Coated face fabric — sort as textile, not as plastic packaging
- Finish is a surface treatment, not a laminate, so the base cloth stays a single fibre family
- Zips and pullers are replaceable rather than bonded
Textiles have been covered by the French Triman and sorting-information rules since 1 February 2023. Full sorting instructions
honest reviews
We publish reviews from verified purchases only, and we do not filter out the critical ones. This piece has not been out long enough to have any yet — when it does, they will appear here unedited, with the size bought next to each one.
